I hesitate to even write about HB here because it’s such a hidden gem. Nestled between a river and rocky cliffs, this beach is my happy place. I’ve been coming here every summer since before I can remember and only missed a summer a handful of times. Chad’s first visit was the summer of 2007 while we were engaged and he was hooked. There is honestly just something about it. Magic.
I want Mason and Ruby to love it as much as I do and I think this year really sealed it for them. Even though we only had a week this time due to other travel plans, we took full advantage of everything HB has to offer. Slow mornings, incredibly low tides, sand dollar treasures, hermit crab hunting and lots of lobster… or should I say lobstah. The kids come alive at the beach and are in heaven with their older cousins riding waves, making castles and flying kites. It’s all about coming back together for us and it works like a charm. I totally disconnect and really only used my phone to take pictures. No YLEO posts, no scrolling facebook, not so much as a text for the most part.
This year we helped our cousins solidify the tradition of surfing the waves with obscenely large floaties, we celebrated my grandmother’s best friend’s 81st birthday, caught approximately fifty-eleven hermit crabs and threw an engagement shindig for Zach and Chelsea complete with very tasteful, “engaged AF” napkins.
Our time in Maine is sacred and we don’t take even a second for granted. Let the countdown for Higgins 2020 begin!
