Tuesday Tea: A Swine Evening 2014

3 Jun

Happy Tuesday!  I wanted to take this opportunity to share about an amazing Nonprofit organization that is here in Charlotte, A Child’s Place (ACP).  I became involved with ACP when it was voted to be MissionCute‘s February Nonprofit Partner and I couldn’t have been more thrilled.  They work with homeless children in the Charlotte area to ensure that they have what they need to be successful in the classroom.  Not just with school supplies but with bagged lunches, uniforms, study buddies and a whole lot of love.
One of their big fundraisers each year is called “A Swine Evening” where they auction off celebrity-signed and decorated piggy banks along with other gift and trips.  It was so neat to see all of the different piggies this year!  My favorite was the Roy Williams piggie and then the Michael C Hall (Dexter) pig which was decorated in true Dexter fashion.  It was amazing.
Check out the piggies here
So as you might imagine, it was a pretty fancy affair… and I had nothing to wear.  I scoured the internet for some ideas and finally remembered the time I had rented (yes, rented) an evening gown during my pregnancy for a formal wedding we went to.   It was an incredibly easy process so I thought I would give it another go.  I found an amazing dress on Rent the Runway and some bling to match.  The first dress I ordered fit a little funky so I called and they overnighted a new dress to me, free of charge.  Talk about amazing customer service!
We had to take advantage of the prom-photo opportunity so here we are!
And after one of the signature martinis, I really couldn’t fight the urge to take an awkward selfie… yikes.
Even more awkward were Chad and his friend Brandon.  Smile boys!
Here is the MissionCute box with it’s celebrity pig!  Our pig was actually signed by one of the ACP students which I think is much more meaningful.
We packed the box up with all sorts of goodies from past boxes along with a three month subscription to MissionCute!
One of the most exciting parts of the night was our local weather man, Larry Sprinkle, and his auctioneer skills.  Here he is, jumping on tables and getting really excited about the live auction:
There was an Ellen DeGeneres Pig, Michael Buble Pig, the cast of the Lion King signed a pig… it was all pretty spectacular!  All of the proceeds went to benefit A Child’s Place and I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to get involved and represent MissionCute!
